Bra Brands: 62 Brands’ Sizing, Compared
Every brand here has a dossier: its sizing system, its band and cup range, whether its chart adds inches, how its bands and cups run against the tape, and your measured size in its label. Filter by system, tier or the size you need; sort the comparison table; read the dossier before you order.
A brand’s size chart is a claim, and the dossiers check each one against the snug-band method. Sizes convert between systems by formula and ladder position; fit does not convert at all, because every house cuts its own band and cup. Measure once, then read the brand.

Every brand’s system, range and fit tendency in one table
Tap a column heading to sort. "Band" and "cup" describe how the brand cuts the label against the tape: a firm band needs the measured size or a step up, a soft one a step down; a small cup wants a letter up, a generous one a letter down. The dossier behind each name gives the evidence and the exceptions by line.

The label converts by system before any of this applies: a US 34D is a UK 34D, an EU 75D, a French 90D, an Italian 3D, an Australian 12D and a Japanese D75. The equivalent chart lists every size in every system; the converter does any pair.
The best bra brands, by what you need them for
"Best" is a size and a job before it is a name. The lists below are read off the dossiers: which brands genuinely cut the range, draft for the load, or specialize in the construction. Every brand links to its dossier; every need links to the buying guide that goes deeper.
American, British, French, European, Japanese and Australian bra brands
Where a brand is from decides the alphabet on its tag and, more than people expect, the shapes it drafts for. The UK houses built their letter ladder to grade depth honestly and their blocks for projected tissue; the French houses cut shallow and wide with beautiful fabric; the German and Belgian engineers sit between; the US mass market grades a mid-size block up and down and, in several cases, still adds inches to the band. The system converts by formula; the cut does not convert at all.
| Country | Sizing system and what to expect | Brands in the dossiers |
|---|---|---|
| United States | US letters: DD, DDD, G, H. Bands in inches. Many mass-market charts still add inches to the underbust; the dossiers say which. | Aerie, Auden (Target), Bali, Berlei, Bras N Things, Cacique, Cake · Bravado · Kindred Bravely, Calvin Klein, Cuup, Harper Wilde, Le Mystère, Lively, Maidenform, Natori |
| United Kingdom | UK letters: DD, E, F, FF, G, GG. Bands in inches. The full-bust houses; bands from 28 and cups to K are normal here. | Boux Avenue, Bravissimo, Curvy Kate, Elomi, Fantasie, Freya, Gossard, Marks & Spencer, Panache, Pour Moi, Shock Absorber |
| France and Spain | French bands (EU plus 15: a US 34 is a 90) with European letters (E at five inches). Luxury and premium seamed cups; shallow, wide wires in several houses. | Aubade, Chantelle, Empreinte, Etam, Lise Charmel, Simone Pérèle |
| Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland | EU bands in centimeters (a US 34 is a 75) with European letters. Engineering-led ranges; some of the deepest cups outside the UK. | Amoena, Anita, Hunkemöller, Marie Jo, Nike / Adidas sports bras, PrimaDonna, Triumph, Triumph Japan |
| Italy | Italian bands count from 1 (a US 34 is a 3) with European letters; fashion-led ranges that stop early in the cup. | Intimissimi, La Perla, Yamamay |
| Japan | Japanese labels put the EU letter before the EU band (a US 34D is a D75). Bands start small and cups run to about an H. | Peach John, Triumph Japan, Wacoal, Wacoal Japan / Wing |
| Australia and New Zealand | Australian bands are the US number minus 22 (a US 34 is a 12) with UK letters. | Bendon (incl. Lovable), Berlei, Bras N Things, Cake · Bravado · Kindred Bravely |
| Canada | US sizing, sold on both sides of the border. | Cake · Bravado · Kindred Bravely, Knix, Lululemon, Montelle |
Origins are where the brand is designed and headquartered, not where it is sewn. Wacoal is Japanese-owned with a US design arm and US sizing; Triumph is Swiss-German with a separate Japanese range; both have two dossiers.
How bra brands run, and what to do about it
Across the 54 brands whose dossiers record a band tendency, 35 run true to the tape, 9 run firm and 10 run soft; of the 53 with a recorded cup tendency, 32 cut true, 6 cut generous and 15 cut small. Those are not verdicts on quality. A firm band from a full-bust house is firm because it is drafted to carry a G; a soft band from a comfort brand is soft because comfort is the product. What matters is knowing which you are buying and adjusting the size, not the expectation.
| The dossier says | What it means on the body | What to buy |
|---|---|---|
| Band runs firm | The measured band feels tight for longer than a week; the powernet has little give | Measured size first; if the band digs after a week, up a band and down a cup |
| Band runs true | The measured band is snug on the loosest hook, as it should be | Measured size |
| Band runs soft | The measured band rides up within weeks; the elastic stretches early | Sister size a band down, cup up; expect a shorter life |
| Cup runs small | Spill or a floating gore in the measured letter | Up a letter, same band |
| Cup runs generous | A gap or wrinkle at the top in the measured letter | Down a letter, same band |
| Add-inches chart | The brand’s own chart puts you two bands up and two cups down | Ignore the chart; use the measured size and the dossier’s conversion widget |
Tendencies are recorded per brand from its published charts, its fitting notes and return patterns; lines within a brand vary, and each dossier names the exceptions. The bra too big and bra too small pages read the symptoms from the other direction.
Value, mid-market, premium, luxury: what the money buys
The dossiers group brands into four tiers, and the tiers describe fabric, finish and distribution rather than fit. Value brands (Hanes, Bali, Playtex, Aerie, Auden, Uniqlo, H&M) sell at accessible prices in wide ranges; the risk is a chart that adds inches and a band that softens early. Mid-market brands, the largest group, include the UK full-bust houses, Cacique, Soma and ThirdLove: this is where engineering per dollar is highest and where most fitters send most people. Premium brands (Wacoal, Chantelle, Natori, Anita) buy consistency of grading and a powernet that keeps its recovery. Luxury houses (La Perla, Lise Charmel, Aubade, Simone Pérèle, Marie Jo, PrimaDonna, Empreinte) buy French and Belgian fabric and hand finishing, and in Empreinte’s and PrimaDonna’s case, real depth as well.
Are expensive bras worth it? For fit, no: a mid-market specialist in the measured size out-supports a luxury contour bra in the wrong one, and the most supportive constructions sold sit in the mid-market tier. For fabric, lace and longevity of the band, often yes. The honest rule is to buy fit in the mid tier and, if you want to, buy fabric above it. Prices move by season and country, so the dossiers do not print them; a mid-market everyday bra in the US sits in the tens of dollars, a luxury one in the low hundreds.

Multi-brand retailers, and why the range matters more than the name
A retailer’s value is the range on its rail: the brands it stocks in their native sizing, the bands and cups it carries, and whether it fits by tape, by eye or by video. These are the ones with dossiers; each lists its stocked brands and its size span. Shop links may earn a commission, prices unchanged; HauteFlair is owned by the same company as this site, disclosed here, and its dossier is held to the same rules as every other.

Bra brands: answered
What are the best bra brands?
It depends on the size and the job. For DD and above the UK full-bust houses (Panache, Freya, Fantasie, Elomi, Curvy Kate, Bravissimo) draft depth from the pattern up. For 40 to 54 bands, Cacique, Elomi and the full-figure lines. For A to C, the narrow-wire US lines and petite specialists. For consistency of grading across every size, Wacoal is the reference most fitters cite. No brand pays to be on this page; every claim comes from its dossier.
Which bra brands are most popular?
By search volume and store count in the US: Victoria’s Secret, Aerie, Soma, ThirdLove, Wacoal, Bali, Playtex and Hanes. Popularity is not a fit signal: the most searched brand has historically been the most common source of a band too loose and a cup too small, and its dossier explains why.
Is there a bra brands list?
The grid at the top is it: sixty-plus brands with a dossier each, filterable by sizing system, tier and the size you need. The table below the grid puts every brand’s system, origin, band and cup range and fit tendency in one place, sortable by any column.
How do bra sizes compare by brand?
Two ways. The label converts by system: a US 34D is a UK 34D, an EU 75D, a French 90D, an Italian 3D and an Australian 12D. Then each brand cuts that label its own way: bands firm, true or soft; cups small, true or generous. The table on this page records both for every brand, and the my-size tool reads your measured size into all of them at once.
Which bra brands do not add inches?
Most of the UK full-bust houses, Wacoal, Natori, Chantelle, Montelle, Cacique and the newer US direct brands measure the band as the snug underbust. Several legacy US mass-market charts still add four or five inches; each dossier says which and what to do about it.
Which bra brands have half cup sizes?
ThirdLove is the best-known brand selling half-cup sizes in the US, between each standard letter. Elsewhere, sister sizes and a second brand’s grading do the same job: a brand whose cups run generous is a half cup up on the same label.
What is a good alternative to Victoria’s Secret?
For the same smooth, everyday look with an honest band and a fuller cup: Wacoal, Natori, Chantelle and Soma. For the sizes its range stops at, the UK full-bust houses. The Victoria’s Secret dossier converts the size you were given there into a measured one first.
Are expensive bras worth it?
For fit, no: support is drafting and materials, and mid-market specialists out-support luxury contour bras at every size above a D. For fabric, hand finishing and lace, yes, if that is what you are buying. The one thing money reliably buys is a powernet band that keeps its recovery longer.
How long does a bra last, and how many should you own?
A bra worn in rotation every third day lasts about a year before the band loses recovery; worn daily it lasts months. Most fitters suggest three to five everyday bras in rotation, plus the special-purpose ones (sport, strapless), and a refit whenever a band only holds on the tightest hook.
