Bra Size Converter & Conversion Chart: US, UK, EU, FR, AU, IT, JP and DE

Pick the system you know your size in, or type two measurements in inches or centimetres. Every other system appears at once, converted the only honest way: bands by measurement, cups by position.

The short answer

Bra bands convert by measurement and cups convert by position, never by letter. A US 34DDD is a UK 34E, an EU/DE/JP 75F, a FR/ES 90F, an AU/NZ 12E and an IT 3F: the same band and the sixth cup on every ladder, wearing six different names.

Your size in every system

Cup lists show the letters that system actually prints; the converter reads their position on the ladder.
Why converters get it wrong

The three things that change between systems

1The band number

US and UK bands are the underbust in inches, rounded to the nearest even number. EU, DE and JP bands are the same measurement in centimetres, rounded to the nearest five. FR and ES add 15 to the EU number. AU and NZ use dress sizes: 8 for a 30, 10 for a 32, 12 for a 34. Italy uses a small index where a 30 is a 1. Every one of these is the same tape measurement wearing a different unit, which is why band conversion is exact and never a judgement call.

2The cup alphabet

Every system counts cups the same way, one letter per inch of bust minus band. The first five letters agree everywhere: A, B, C, D, DD. From the sixth cup the alphabets diverge. The US writes DDD, G, H, I, J, K. The UK and Australia write E, F, FF, G, GG, H. Continental Europe and Japan simply continue: E, F, G, H, I, J. Reading across by letter, a UK G and a US G are three cups apart; reading by position they are never confused.

3What the brand does with it

A converted size is a starting point in the brand's language, not a promise about its grading. A UK-sized full-bust house drafts a firmer band than a US mass-market label at the same number, and a French brand's D may be shallower than an American one's. The brand dossiers carry that second layer; this page handles the first, the arithmetic, so the dossier can start from the right cell.

Italian sizing begins at a 30 band (IT 1). Japanese bands use the EU centimetre scale; some Japanese brands print cups one step deeper than the EU letter for the same measurement, so treat the JP column as the label to look for, then check the brand's own chart.

Read a row, not a column: whatever letter your bra says, find it in your system's column, then read across. The cup size hub shows what each position looks like on different bands.

Worked example

One woman, seven labels

She measures 31 inches snug under the bust and 37 inches around the fullest part. The band rounds to 32; the difference is six inches, the sixth cup. In US notation that is a 32DDD. In UK notation the sixth cup is E, so she is a 32E, and in Australia the same, a 10E on the dress-size band. In Europe a 32 band is labelled 70 (the EU number converts from the label, not from her centimetres: 78.7 cm of ribcage wears a 70, because the scale was calibrated in the add-four era), and the sixth EU cup is F, so she is a 70F in Germany and Japan and, adding 15, an 85F in France and Spain. In Italy the 32 band is a 1, so a 1F.

Seven labels, one bra volume. Notice that the two she is most likely to get wrong are the two that look most alike: the UK 32E and the EU 70F are the same cup, while the UK 32F and the US 32G are the same cup, one deeper. Anyone who converts by matching the letter buys a size off; anyone who converts by position does not. That is the whole method, and it is why the tool above never asks you which letter you are used to, only which system printed it.

Bands are the easy half. If your snug underbust sits between even inches, say 31.5, the band could round either way; take the snugger and expect it to feel firm; that is not a conversion error, it is the same between-sizes problem every system has, and the sister size calculator resolves it the same way in every alphabet.

Answered

Bra size conversion: answered

How do I convert my bra size to a different country?

Convert the band by measurement and the cup by position. Bands are just the underbust in inches (US and UK), centimetres (EU, DE, JP), centimetres plus 15 (FR and ES), a dress-size number (AU and NZ) or a small index (IT). Cups count the same inch-per-letter difference in every system; only the alphabet changes. A US 34DDD is a UK 34E, an EU 75F, a FR 90F, an AU 12E, an IT 3F and a JP 75F, the sixth cup on every ladder.

Is a UK DD the same as a US DD?

Yes. A, B, C, D and DD sit at the same positions in both alphabets. The systems split at the sixth cup: the US writes DDD where the UK writes E, then US G = UK F, US H = UK FF, US I = UK G, US J = UK GG, US K = UK H.

What is a 75C in US sizing?

A 34C. The EU band is the underbust in centimetres rounded to the nearest five, and 75 cm is a 34 in US and UK numbering. The cup letter C is the third cup in every system, so it does not change.

How do French bra sizes work?

French and Spanish bands are the EU band plus 15: a 75 becomes a 90, an 80 a 95. Cups follow the EU alphabet (A, B, C, D, E, F, G) by position, so a US 34DD is a FR 90E.

How do Australian bra sizes work?

Australia and New Zealand use dress-size numbers for the band: 8 is a 30, 10 a 32, 12 a 34, 14 a 36, up in twos. Cups follow the UK alphabet, so a US 34DDD is an AU 12E.

Can I convert from centimetres to a bra size?

Yes; use the measurement mode above. Enter your snug underbust and relaxed bust in centimetres, and the converter divides by 2.54, rounds the band to the nearest even inch, counts one cup per inch of difference, and then shows that size in every system. No inches are added to the band.

Why does the same letter mean different things in different countries?

Because each system named its cups independently after the fifth one. The US doubled letters (DD, DDD), the UK went DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, and continental Europe simply continued the alphabet (E, F, G, H). The volume at each position is the same; the label is not, which is why every converter here works on position and not on the letter you are used to.
