Demi Bras vs Full-Coverage Bras
Half a cup or the whole breast. The demi ends its top edge low and suits shapes that carry their fullness at the bottom; the full-coverage bra encloses everything and suits fullness at the top, soft tissue and large sizes. The choice is a shape decision first and a neckline decision second.
Demi Bras or Full-Coverage Bras, in short
A demi covers about half the breast with a low, gently angled top edge; a full-coverage bra encloses the whole breast with a high edge and taller sides. Demi for shallow and full-on-bottom shapes under open necklines; full coverage for full-on-top, soft tissue and every size above a DD.

Which cut wins where
| Shape | Demi Bras | Full-Coverage Bras |
|---|---|---|
| Round | Fits. Half coverage on an even shape | Fits. Encloses without an empty top |
| Teardrop | Fits. The edge ends where the fullness is | With care. May gap at the top on a smaller teardrop |
| Bell | Fits. Lifts lower fullness without an empty top | Fits. Lifts and holds soft lower fullness |
| East-West | With care. Fits; does not gather tissue in | Fits. With side support, gathers tissue in |
| Athletic | Fits. Shallow tissue and a low edge agree | Avoid. Shallow tissue leaves the top of the cup empty |
| Side Set | With care. Wide-set straps suit; the gore may float | With care. A full gore can press between wide-set breasts |
| Relaxed | Avoid. Soft tissue spills over a low edge | Fits. Contains and lifts soft tissue |
| Asymmetrical | With care. Contour demi hides half a cup | Fits. Height hides the difference |

How the sizing rules differ
| Demi Bras | Full-Coverage Bras | |
|---|---|---|
| Rule 1 | Measured size; check the top edge Snug band, bust minus band. The edge should lie flat, not cut in. | Measured size; judge the top edge Snug band, bust minus band. A gap at the top in the measured size means the shape is shallow, not the cup too big. |
| Rule 2 | Full-on-top spills If the upper breast bulges over the edge in the measured size, the cut is wrong; a bigger cup gaps below. | UK letters above DD Most full-coverage ranges above a DD are UK houses: DD, E, F, FF. Convert by position. |
| Rule 3 | Straps sit wide Set to the outside of the cup; narrow shoulders may need a convertible. | Wire should end behind the root Taller cups bring wider wires; a wire in the armpit means the root is narrower than the cut. |
Both start from the same measured size. The rules above are adjustments; get the starting size from the calculator, and use the sister size calculator when the band and the cup disagree.

Demi Bras vs Full-Coverage Bras: answered
What is the difference between a demi bra and a full-coverage bra?
Where the top edge sits. A demi ends about halfway up the breast with an edge that slopes toward the center; a full-coverage cup reaches the top of the breast and often has taller sides. The demi shows more and suits shapes full at the bottom; the full cup contains more and suits shapes full at the top, soft tissue and large cups.
Is a demi bra good for large breasts?
To about a DD, yes, on shapes that carry their fullness low. Above that the low top edge has too little breast to contain, tissue spills over it on movement, and full-bust ranges cut few demis. A balconette is the large-cup version of the same idea, with a straighter, slightly higher edge.
Which is more supportive, demi or full coverage?
Full coverage at every size above a DD, because the taller cup and wider wire hold more tissue against the band. At A to D they support equally in the correct size; support is the band and wire, and both have those. Coverage decides containment, not lift.
Why does my full-coverage bra gap at the top?
Your breast is shallower at the top than the cup, which is the full cup’s one weakness. The volume may be right; the height is wrong. A demi or balconette ends before the empty part, and dropping a cup letter in the full cup would put the wire on tissue without closing the gap.
Do I wear the same size in demi and full-coverage bras?
Yes at the tape. The cut changes the shape of the cup, not its volume. Judge each by its own edge: a demi should lie flat without the upper breast bulging over it, a full cup should lie flat without a gap above the tissue. If one fails in the measured size, change the cut, not the letter.
What neckline can I wear with a full-coverage bra?
Crew, high scoop, boat and anything that sits above the collarbone; the cup edge will show under a low scoop or V. Demis disappear under scoop, square and moderate V necklines; plunges under deep Vs.
